A Solopreneur’s Journey to RM100,000 a Month

What the flying f*** am I doing?

I have never started a company… Seriously, who in their right mind would start a company especially when you are married with 2 kids?

Not sure when but I’ve always loved the feeling when I played a part in growing a business, it just never hit me to start a business on my own, until one day, I asked myself this:

Will you regret in future if you don’t try?

And the rest is history.

That’s how I started Validate Digital as a marketing agency to help SMEs grow their business with digital marketing.

Documenting the good, bad & ugly

I wasted a few days time sending out 20 marketing proposals I thought would be helpful to SMEs and guess what? 0 conversions.

I also had good wins where people just entrust me to do things without even asking on fees.

And this is the exact reason why this document matters so much – the failures and success is what this blog will be about.

Regardless you are a marketing manager or business owner, this blog will cover the lessons I learned from my own experiences, including my experiments, my wins, and my fails, backed up with real numbers.

“But isn’t there a lot of resources out there that talks about the same thing…?”

Yes, you are right. There are tons of amazing resources – online and offline – for you to learn about this journey, in fact, I was inspired by GrooveHQ to document my journey. I know there are better writers out there.

But with this blog, I’ll be taking a different perspective. A view as a business owner, with validated ideas that you can execute on right away. Everything I write here will be my hard-earned lessons from my own experience, as I learn them on my way to RM100,000 in monthly revenue.

Why RM100,000 in Monthly Revenue?

Goal matters.

A big milestone like this forces me to focus.

I could either find 50 clients that are willing to pay RM2,000 per month for my services…

…or I could just work with 20 clients that can pay RM5,000 per month.

I’m not sure how things will turn out, however, I believe that the only way to make money is to provide value. To make even more money = provide even more value.

The funny thing is…

I never had the intention to rent an office or hire staff, I might change my mind in the future, but we shall see.

So What’s Next?

Starting with my next post,  I’ll talk about the lessons I learned, including:

  • Why we are all in a business of scaling time (and focus on things that matters to you)
  • Why business owners are the best social media managers (and how you can be the same)
  • How I wasted 3 days working on something that people doesn’t want (and how you can avoid the same mistake)

I’ll be releasing a new post each week, starting with the one outlined above. Make sure to subscribe to my mailing list so you can get notified as soon as I publish them.

See you next week. Have something you want to learn more about? Let me know in the comments below!
